Devotional

Volunteers by Betsy Burnett

When we were weeding the garden to plant my eagle eyed daughter called me over and said “Mom aren’t these tomato plants?” Walking over I was quite pleased to discover a couple of ‘volunteers’ in my garden. Occasionally in a garden you will be blessed with a plant that you WANT just springing up naturally. These surprises you never are quite sure what variety you are going to get but hey they are free.

Sometimes life hands us volunteers. Those things that spring up in life that might not be exactly what you planned (or how you planned it but they are good (or at least good for you!) When I first started to homeschool I was very caught up in making sure everything got done every single day. With three kids 5 and under that was sometimes a difficult task and I felt like a failure! The problem was it just wasn’t the kids that interrupted, there were the calls from a friend that needed to talk, or someone that need help with something, or even someone getting sick and needing to be taken care of. I ended up feeling guilty if I did and guilty if I didn’t.

It was shortly after this I went to my first homeschool convention. The very first workshop I attended changed my life! The workshop was put on by a mom of seven (who was pregnant with her 8th!) I figured if anyone could help me be more organized with my day she could. Surely she would have the secrets of getting everything done that I had been missing! What shocked me though was the very first thing she told us “There is no such thing as an “interruption” to you homeschool day there is only an opportunity for God to teach you something” … She paused for a moment and allowed that thought to sink into our heads and our hearts. The she went onto explain.

What I ended up learning from her is that homeschool and well life in general isn’t just about the three “r’s” it’s also about growing up into the person God wants you to be. It’s about being available to what He has in store for you that day, or even that season. She then went on to talk about how sometimes the most precious characteristics can’t be learned in books, they have to be learned in life. The only way you learn them is to as Nike is fond of telling us “Just do it” She went on to tell us about the different seasons she has experienced with her children, she talked about her kids learning to grieve when her mother died, she talked about learning compassion and caring when their brother broke a leg. On and on with different examples, the more she talked the freer I felt.

I realized that if I watched my attitude checked my heart and consulted God about these interruptions to my day we could learn a whole lot more than school books could teach. Math could be taught while helping to prepare a meal for a sick friend on top of learning to reach out as Jesus did “when I was sick and in prison you visited me.” (Matthew 25:36) Compassion could be learned (not to mention how to REST) while helping to care for a sick sibling. Patience (not to mention oral reading skills ) could be learned when your little sister wants to have Wait for Elmo read to her for the 6th time. I was also reaping the blessings of not just godly character traits in my children, but seeing the blessings of growing relationships in them as well.

As time went on I learned that the kids weren’t the only one that benefited from this new approach. I was learning too. I was learning to seek God about things that came up. I was learning to seize opportunities when they did. I was even (very ) slowly learning to recognize those things that that needed to be done vs. those that were just time wasters. Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time and a season for everything under the sun. (Ecc 3: 1)

So the next time you want to get annoyed because of a seemingly interruption to your day or even life, stop and ask the Lord if he might just have something for you in what’s come up. Because you never know, that tomato plant that sprung up in your garden might not produce those great big beefy sandwich tomatoes you planted, but it does produce tasty little salad tomatoes perfect for snacking and they were just what you needed!

WE RETURNED HOME SAFE THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!

Thanks for your text messages, and e-mails, and prayers we had a blessed time and are glad to be home welcomed with open arms by those whom love and miss us thank you all.
We learned alot about loving each other as well as those around us and the Lord is working in both my daughters and my own heart praise God.

I am so blessed to those of you homeschooling mom's who have questions for me I will do my best throughout the year to help answer any of you and encourage you all I will share some now
and know I am praying for you all as we begin our week next week:

First I know you all wanted to know the different learning types our kiddo's may fall under here is the info I have found:
First a learning style refers to the way a person best takes in, understands and remembers information. Some kiddo's learn best in a quiet room, others with background noise, some learn best in logical steps, while others see the whole picture at once. Some children need more structure than others ,some learn best in an open-ended learning environment.
This is something awesome I just read today:
ALL OF THESE UNIQUE FACTORS SHOW HOW GOD CREATED EACH OF OUR CHILDREN INDIVIDUALLY, FOR HIS PURPOSE. JUST AS YOUR CHILD HAS A DISTINCT TEMPERAMENT, PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND PERSONALITY, HE ALSO HAS A PARTTICULAR WAY OF LEARNING.

Visual Learner- understands and remembers best what he /she sees with their eyes.

Auditory Learner- this child needs to hear and verbalize the new info. to understand it.

Kinesthetic learner- this child needs to involve touch and movement in processing of new concepts, this child needs to use his muscles by writing down or acting out the new material
because he learns by doing.

Then there are the kiddo's that learn in a combination of all three of thee above.

So as you begin your school year pray the Lord would reveal quickly what category your children fit into so you can better understand how to teach them effectively.
I pray we all seek to have the Lord's love and patience with our kids Love Covers a Multitude
of Sins and when we see our kiddo's as HE does we will be more effective teachers and not expect perfection. I pray we all remember to take one day at a time and to all stay involved with each other help lift each other up and be that encouragement to make it through In Jesus Name

God Bless and until next time know I am a phone call away you are NEVER bothering me and if I cant get to call right away I will call back A.S.A.P
God Bless,
Love,
Cindy

Hello My Home Schooling Friends!!!

Thank you all so much for coming and joining us at the homeschool meeting last night. I am so glad you were all blessed and really give thanks to the Lord. We are all so blessed to have the opportunity to homeschool our precious gifts from above. I am so grateful to have all the different ideas and backgrounds we each bring to the group as a whole may we embrace our differences and have a blessed
year to come.

Father, I thank you for each mother who will be homeschooling this year ,I pray your hedge of protection over each household. I pray Lord that each husband and wife would be likeminded and seek your will to be done in the teaching of their children. Father I lift every child to you right now and ask that you protected them from the enemy that you would open their eyes to see and their ears to hear all that you would have for them to learn and Father most importantly that it would pierce their very hearts and they may become not only hearers of your word
but doers of your word. Father I pray for every mom who couldn't make our meeting I lift them up and ask you make a way for them to be at the next one Father we thank you for the priviledge of homeschooling our kiddo's and ask you to now be our strength throughout the year to come In Jesus Name Amen.............

God bless each one of you as you embarq on this amazing journey and if you have any questions at all fill free to ask I would love to help if I can.

Until Next Time,
Cindy

Good Evening My Friend's

Well I made it thru the weekend ...... it was a blessing fellowship was great. I have used the last few days to rest and reflect on some things the Lord has or is bringing me through.

As a few of you know the last two scrap weekends my husband and I have gone through a bit of warfare. We were going to spend time on Sunday after church together to make up for time lost while I was away scrapping ......... However Greg was called into work came home late Sunday
evening and woke up at 5:30 the next morning and flew via helicopter to work in the Grand Canyon and will return tomorrow just before I leave for church so it has been a lonely couple of days......... well not as lonely as I expected the Lord has used this time as a time of reflection on where my marriage is now after 11 years of marriage , you see it was all the Lord's plan He allows everything for good to those who are called AMEN. My husband and I have had our share of issues and I am now at liberty to speak about the very real fact that we were VERY close to a divorce at one point and to my surprise it was actually all my fault. You see we go into relationships most of the times not always but most of the times expecting the other party to fulfill expectations or to meet our every need and not willing to sacrifice for the other party when really that is what we are to do. You see I expected my every need to be fulfilled no matter what .....yes very selfish (only God can fill our every need)
however a light went off and the Lord has awakened my heart to things I knew yet was not applying to my own marriage. We are called to "RESPECT" our husbands always not when we feel like it or when things are going good or when we are feeling loved but always and at times we may have to suffer and sink in the ship and go with the things our husbands decide even when we know they are wrong because in the end the HUSBAND is the head of the household he is the final decision maker. Now please dont misunderstand I am not saying we are to do nothing we are called to pray without ceasing and to be a helpmeet and give opinions and offer sound advice however we have to allow room for the Lord to work and mistakes to be made. We CANNOT BE OUR HUSBANDS HOLY SPIRIT'S I had to learn that the very hard way at a high price of lost joy in our marriage and priceless time lost in which we cannot get back.
I now know that the Lord is in control of my husband and He alone will change him nothing I say or do will make him more Godly and who are we to think it can. I am so thankful my husband has put up with my many ungodly issues and has held out and seen them through and I pray we are blessed with many more amazing years. I know my role as his wife is to esteem him higher than myself and to respect him and submit to him and with God I am able to do that with the Holy Spirit leading me. So these last few days the Lord has allowed me to miss him like crazy and that is new for me I have always enjoyed my time away from my husband for a little while however my heart has really ached for him these past few days and given me a renewed love for him thank you Jesus. So I am encouraging you if your marriage is not what you thought it was to be... I encourage you to examine your own hearts rather then trying to find fault in your mate and pray the Lord will work in you both bringing you both closer to each other as well as to Him.
See when trouble comes in our marriages as it does to us all at one point or another ,God is great and we are small, however there is nothing we need to fear if we have the faith in God that where ever the Lord takes us He will also be there waiting to help us, to bear our pain ,our suffering is never too much to yield to God's gracious, merciful, touch!
"THE LORD IS GRACIOUS, AND SLOW TO ANGER, AND OF GREAT MERCY. THE LORD IS GOOD TO ALL: AND HIS TENDER MERCIES ARE OVER ALL HIS WORKS. PSALM 145:8/9

IF WE ARE TO BE IN CHRIST'S IMAGE THEN SHALL WE NOT SHOW FULL COMPASSION
TO OUR HUSBANDS, AND BE SLOW TO ANGER AND OF MERCY OURSELVES???
Something to ponder on the next time we are quick to point our fingers to our hubby's and point out what they may or may not be fulfilling.
I have been praying this sweet prayer of patience written by a women named:Helen Rice

"A PRAYER FOR PATIENCE"
GOD, TEACH ME TO BE PATIENT
TEACH ME TO GO SLOW
TEACH ME HOW TO "WAIT ON YOU"
WHEN MY WAY I DO NOT KNOW ....
TEACH ME SWEET FORBEARANCE
WHEN THINGS DO NOT GO RIGHT
SO I REMAIN UNRUFFLED
WHEN OTHERS GROW UPTIGHT...
TEACH ME HOW TO QUIET
MY RACING, RISING HEART
SO I MAY HEAR THE ANSWER
YOU ARE TRYING TO IMPART...
TEACH ME TO LET GO DEAR GOD,
AND PRAY WITH OUT CEASING UNTIL
MY HEART IS FILLED WITH INNER PEACE
AND I LEARN TO KNOW YOUR WILL!

"BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD........" PSALM 46:10
May God give us all a great love and respect for the husbands He has blessed each one of us with
and may we pray for them daily and miss them whenever they are away.
God bless each of you and your marriages and families!
until next time,
Love your Sis In Christ,
mwah(kisses)
